City FC Aim to Build on Inaugural Season Success

Mid South Division club captured U12 Boys title in 2017

After achieving the pinnacle of success in their inaugural Super Y League campaign by winning the U12 Boys National Title at the 2017 SYL Finals, City FC are chasing that same success in their sophomore campaign.

The City FC U12 Boys made their way to Bradenton, Florida, last December and battled through an incredibly tough group stage and semifinals to defeat Atlanta Fire United by a 5-1 score in the final. Led by 2017 SYL Finals leading goal-scorer Raul Parga, who scored 10 times in the tournament, the U12 Boys marked an early triumph in City FC’s SYL tenure.

“Winning the National Title for the U12 Boys was a fantastic experience for our players, families and coaches,” said City FC Director of Coaching Antony Penna. “The professionalism of the Super Y League organization made the entire event exciting and memorable, giving players unique exposure and experiences to grow from. Winning against such great opposition throughout the finals shows that our club’s Players Development Pathway (PDP) program and our excellent coaching staff are developing our players to compete at an elite level.”

Now the club seeks to build upon its initial success in their second SYL campaign. Competing once again in the Mid South Division -  also entering its second season - City FC will face off against clubs from across Texas and Oklahoma in an attempt to earn a return bid to this December’s 2018 SYL Finals. With bid allocation to be announced shortly, City FC will be gunning for a top spot to ensure a trip to IMG Academy this fall.

“Players and families are excited for the Super Y League to begin,” said Penna. “With the league being played in the summer, it’s a great platform that provides meaningful competition at a crucial time in the year. The entire club wants to emulate what our 2005 Boys achieved last year.”

As part of their sophomore campaign, City FC will get to take part in one of the two new SYL Showcase events scheduled for 2018. Taking place in Dallas, Texas, from August 4-5, the Showcases are a natural evolution of the SYL’s neutral-site matches. In addition to competitive matches, City FC will have access to special resources and seminars from SYL sponsors such as College Fit Finder, FirstPoint USA and Hudl.

“The SYL Showcase event is something we are very excited about,” said Penna. “From the value it brings to the league, the exposure it will present to our families and players and the added prestige of playing to the best of their abilities in order to advance to the SYL Finals. It’s another unique value the league brings by having competition and meaningful games in a showcase setting. Most other showcases have nothing to play for, which in my opinion takes away the competiveness coaches are looking for in a player. This is a very positive move forward for the league and in providing great opportunities for our players.”
