New division set to launch in 2018, Breakers one of five founding member clubs

With the recent announcement of the new Southwest Division, which will launch in 2018, the Oceanside Breakers are set to be one of five founding member clubs in the region.

“We are thrilled to have the Oceanside Breakers as one of our leading clubs in the new Southwest Division,” said Dominic Colarusso, the USL’s Associate of Business Development. “Having the Breakers and their mission-driven player development philosophy provides a strong foundation for the division that will help it follow the success of our Mid South Division in 2017. We look forward to seeing what the Breakers can do both regionally and nationally within the Super Y League.”

Founded in 1977, the Oceanside Breakers recently celebrated their 40th anniversary of developing elite youth talent. Serving all ages from four year old beginners to 18 year old players transitioning to college, the Breakers aim to provide an affordable, inclusive soccer environment aimed at giving athletes a comprehensive program at a first-class club. Using their three ‘C’ philosophy of Community, Camaraderie and Commitment, the club strives to promote self-esteem, good sportsmanship and positive character development for all players within its program.

"As we wrap up our 40th year anniversary and prepare to roll out our new logo, our club is earning a level of respectability and a favorable position in the soccer community which is unprecedented in our club's history,” said Frank Zimmerman, Oceanside Breakers Director of Coaching. “Those of us in the club’s leadership need to ensure that we find sustainable ways to keep moving our club forward, remaining light on our feet and ready to respond to the ever-changing soccer landscape in Southern California and the nation. To that end, we are happy to announce that Oceanside Breakers have accepted the opportunity to become a founding member club of the SYL’s Southwest Division.”

“We have put serious time and consideration into the decision to join the Super Y League, and feel doing so could transform our club and provide opportunities for participation in high level league, regional and national competitions while continuing to maintain a developmentally sound environment,” Zimmerman said. “The end result is added value to our players via new player developmental and identification pathways which reach to the collegiate and professional levels.”

A part of United Soccer Leagues, LLC, which also operates the Division II USL, the new third-division league and Premier Development League, the Super Y League features a summer platform with an annual North American Championship in December.
