Ohio-based club and 310 affiliate adds to SYL’s growing regional footprint

TAMPA, Fla - Growing the Super Y League’s formidable Midwest presence, the league is pleased to announce the addition of Columbus East FC, set to begin play in 2018.

“The Midwest Division has continued to grow into a powerful region for the Super Y League, and that growth is further supplemented by the addition of another strong member in Columbus East FC,” said Dominic Colarusso, the USL’s Associate of Business Development. “The club is one of the premier organizations in Ohio, and its partnership with Brad Friedel’s 310 organization only adds to the incredible experience that local players can expect from Columbus East FC.”

A partner of the Columbus East Soccer Association and Blumberg & Company, a Columbus-based sports management group with an expertise in youth development and grassroots initiatives, Columbus East FC provides an educational curriculum designed to develop skillful, technically-sound players who love and appreciate the sport. The club is also affiliated with U.S. Men’s National Team Legend Brad Friedel’s 310 organization, elevating the club’s ability to provide significant opportunities for its players.

“Columbus East FC is very excited about its introduction into the Super Y League,” said Columbus East FC Player Development Coordinator and Technical Director Marco Miriello. “The SYL, in addition to providing access to high-quality competition, gives us the ability to extend our competitive platform through the summer. Combined with the national exposure of the annual North American Finals, the player identification program of the SYL Scouting Network and the connection to the USL, USL Division III and Premier Development League, the SYL allows us to provide our players with a clear developmental pathway.”

“Being a part of the USL network is very important to us, as it presents a terrific opportunity for our players who will go on to play collegiate soccer,” Miriello continued. “Having the opportunity to be a part of a continued development pathway, playing matches at a very competitive level with the opportunity to be noticed by a network of professional scouts, fits in with our goals for players in our club.”

A part of United Soccer Leagues, LLC, which also operates the Division II USL, the new third-division league and Premier Development League, the Super Y League features a summer platform with an annual North American Championship in December.
