New member club expands league’s Missouri presence in addition to local rival St. Louis Lions

On the heels of announcing the return of the St. Louis Lions to the Super Y League next season, the league is happy to announce the expansion of its local presence with the addition of new member club, Real St. Louis, also set to begin play in 2018.

“Aside from growing the league’s Midwest presence, the addition of Real St. Louis provides a natural local rival for our returning club, St Louis Lions,” said Dominic Colarusso, the USL’s Associate of Business Development. “Such rivalries are part of what makes the Super Y League the nation’s leading youth organization, and will provide enormous benefits to Real St. Louis as the club continues to grow on the regional and national stage.”

One of the fastest growing clubs in the St. Louis area, Real St. Louis joins the SYL seeking to expand its presence and challenge its players on a larger, regional scale. In addition to embracing a high-level competitive environment necessary for the development of strong, technically sound players, the club will enjoy an immediate local rivalry with the St. Louis Lions, who return after a one-year hiatus.

“Our club has been looking for a way to challenge our players on a regional basis with an opportunity for those players to be seen on a national scale by college coaches,” said John Roeslein, Real St. Louis Director of Coaching. “The Super Y League will allow us to gauge ourselves on a regional level against high-quality opposition, in addition to helping promote our club as one of the best in the St. Louis area.”

“Our short and long-term goals are to develop technically sound players with a sense of freedom and confidence on the ball while playing attacking soccer,” Roeslein continued. “Winning is always important, but our primary objective is the development of elite youth talent with strong technical ability and the ability to play creatively.”

A part of United Soccer Leagues, LLC, which also operates the Division II USL, the new third-division league and Premier Development League, the Super Y League features a summer platform with an annual North American Championship in December.
