BRADENTON, Fla. – Chicago Inferno had to overcome a determined Sunrise United 2-0 on Saturday morning in the U12 Boys at the Super Y Finals at IMG Academy.

It was an end to end match in the opening stages, with both teams attacking in an absorbing encounter but both teams held firm defensively. Good defense from both teams saw shots blocked, making life easy for the goalkeepers with the pace of the shots taken off.

Chicago went agonizingly close to scoring the opener in the 19th minute as a good pass square found Sergio Suarez. He had space and shot across the face of goal, but could only find the far post, allowing Sunrise to clear.

One minute later an indirect free kick in the box lead to the opener after the Sunrise keeper picked up a back pass. That gave Chicago the chance, playing the ball for Josue Yeray Vargas who shot just over the wall and the keeper’s hands to open the scoring.

Chicago continued to attack in the second half, working to add a second, knowing that Sunrise was a dangerous side, capable of scoring an equalizer at an moment. Trailing 1-0, Sunrise was going for the match but could not find an equalizer, struggling to get the clear chances.

In the 41st minute Chicago doubled its lead after some good work saw it work the ball up the field and create an opening in the box. That saw the ball fall to Suarez who made no mistake placing his shot perfectly into the back of the net.
