BRADENTON, Fla. – New Jersey Elite showed its quality in its opening game in the Under 14 Girls Super Y Finals at IMG Academy on Friday morning. Forced to come from behind after conceding the opener, NJ Elite ended up dominating the match, claiming a 6-1win.

It only took five minutes into the match for DDYSC to open the scoring, coming from a fantastic clearance from DDY keeper Molly Khayat. Her long ball found Adiana Labouchere who ran onto the ball, catching the keeper coming off her line, simply passing the ball just pass her.

Khayat continued her strong performance, just three minutes later making a strong save to keep DDY in front. The initial shot was strong forcing a save out of Khayat, which she parried before leaping up quickly and covering the rebound.

In the 14th minute Khayat was at it again, as a beautiful cross in the box was laid back for Corinne Lyght who looked certain to score. But Khayat came up big, getting down quickly, parrying the shot away, allowing her team to clear.

Yet again Lyght and Khayat did battle in the 22nd minute, and yet again it was Khayat who came out on top, making a spectacular double save. Lyght’s first shot was hit too close to Khayat, allowing her to make the save, but the rebound fell to Lyght, who hit a better shot, but a spectacular save from Khayat kept her side in front as she held the ball.

A floating ball into the box finally got NJ Elite the equalizer it was seeking, as Maria Madonna sent in a lofted ball over the top of the DDY defense. The ball fell to Lyght at the near post, and she finally got the goal she was fighting for, heading it home.

At the death of the first half Lyght doubled her tally, and gave NJ Elite the lead after a beautiful pass from Kayla Horvaht opened up the space. That let Lyght run clean through on goal placing her shot away from the keeper.

A stunning goal in the third minute of the second half by NJ Elite started to take the game away from DDY as Samantha Erickson found space outside the box. She hit a shot high and over the keeper, perfectly chipping Khayat, nestling into the back of the net.

The match was effectively wrapped up in the 44th minute, after a shot from Riley Korzeneski was well saved by Khayat, unfortunately for her, the parried shot fell back into play. That ball fell to Olivia DeSousa who was able to score with a simple tap into give NJ Elite a 4-1 lead.

The woodwork only gave a temporary respite for DDY FC as NJ Elite hit the frame three times in the 53rd minute. But one minute later NJ Elite had its fifth goal as DeSousa sealed her brace after outmuscling her defender and easily shot past the keeper.

The scoring continued for NJ Elite just two minutes later NJ Elite was through again, Korzenski getting space on the edge of the area to square the ball. That ball fell to a wide open Erickson who was left with a simple finish to make it 6-1.

Lyght sealed her hat-trick in the 64th minute as she found the ball right in front at the top of the box, in space. Lyght was able to then hit a powerful strike over the top of the keeper and into the back of the net.

A ball to the far post from Lyght wrapped up the 8-1 win as her ball found Jadyn Fleischacker lurking at the far post, allowing her a simple tap in, putting her side in a commanding position for the rest of the tournament.
