Tiebreakers, Format for Knockout Round at 2016 SYL Finals

Head-to-Head results then goal differential to serve as first tiebreakers

TAMPA, Fla. – Sunday is decision day at the 2016 Super Y League North American Finals in Bradenton, Florida, and most of the knockout round spots in each age group are still up for grabs.

The final of day of group play takes place on Sunday, with matches kicking off at 8 a.m., 10 a.m., 12 p.m., 2 p.m. and 4 p.m. Semifinals will be held at 8 a.m., 10 a.m., 12 p.m., 2 p.m. and 4 p.m. on Monday, while the Finals cap off the event on Tuesday.

Tiebreakers

In each group at the SYL Finals, the head-to-head result serves as the first tiebreaker to determine the group winner, while goal differential and goals scored follow, respectively.

4. FIFA Fair Play
5. FIFA Kicks from the mark
*Once a 3-way tie is broken, revert back to #1

Seeding

Total points serves as the first tiebreaker to determine seeding for the Semifinals, while head-to-head results and goal differential follows, respectively.

4. Goals Scored
5. FIFA Fair Play
6. FIFA Kicks from the mark
*Once a 3-way tie is broken, revert back to #1

Format

Four-Group Division

The team finishing on top of a four-group division from each group (A, B, C and D) will advance to the Semifinals. Teams that progress from a four-division group will be seeded based on their total points in group play; tiebreakers will apply, as needed. Seeding will be subject to the seed determination protocols for the North American Finals.

Three-Group Division

The top team from each group (A, B and C) will reach the Semifinals, while team with the next highest points per game (NHPPG) between the three groups will also advance. The four teams that progress will be seeded based on their total points in group play; tiebreakers will apply, as needed. Seeding will be subject to the seed determination protocols for the North American Finals.

Two-Group Division

The top two teams from each group (A and B) will progress to the Semifinals. They will be seeded based on their total points in group play; tiebreakers will apply, as needed. Seeding will be subject to the seed determination protocols for the North American Finals.

One-Group Division

The top two teams from the group will advance to the Finals, to be held on Tuesday. There will be no Semifinals for a division with one group.
