Florida-based club strengthens Southeast Division as it prepares for 2017 season

TAMPA, Fla. – Tampa Bay United will join the Super Y League as a member club beginning with the 2017 season, the league and club announced today.

Tampa Bay United’s inclusion bolsters a Southeast Division that will also include new members in Braden River SC and Florida Gulf Coast Dutch Lions FC.

“Quality clubs, such as Tampa Bay United, are recognizing the need for players to play in competitive matches during the summer,” said Matt Reda, Manager of Youth League Operations for the Super Y League. “TBU is the latest youth powerhouse to notice this trend and act on it by becoming a member of the SYL to benefit the development of its large player pool.”

Tampa Bay United is led by CEO Charlie Slagle, a distinguished men’s coach at Davidson College who will become President of the National Soccer Coaches Association of America in January of 2017.

“The Super Y League is a great addition to the TBU program,” Slagle said. “It allows us to train players during the summer with competitive games and with minimal travel. It will aid in the development of our players.”

With the addition of Tampa Bay United, the Super Y League now provides 94 youth clubs and approximately 10,000 players a unique experience through its advanced player tracking, strong development resources and college soccer connections. The Super Y League, founded in 1999, features a summer platform with an annual North American Championship taking place in December.
