Join Concorde Fire, Washington Spirit Academy as SYL-member clubs selected

U.S. Soccer revealed 28 more clubs that will be a part of the new Girls' Development Academy, and two more Super Y League-member clubs were named.

Midwest United FC (Grand Rapids, Michigan) and Weston FC (Weston, Florida) join the Concorde Fire (Atlanta, Georgia) and Washington Spirit Academy as the SYL-member teams that will be a part of the new initiative by U.S. Soccer, which is hoping to accelerate the development of female players across the country through this program.

Club leadership, quality of the coaching staff, investment in development and a history of player production for Youth National Teams, the senior Women’s National Team and professional leagues are among the criteria used to determine acceptance into the Girls' Development Academy.

U.S. Soccer's program features three age groups: U-14/15, U-16/17 and U-18/19. The program looks to play fewer but more meaningful games, increasing the amount of training for the players. Play will begin in the fall of 2017, and clubs are expected to train a minimum of four times per week.
