USL League Two club expands its network to include SYL youth platform

GARDEN CITY, N.Y.- The Super Y League announced today the addition of USL League Two’s Long Island Rough Riders ahead of the 2021 season. The New York-based club will compete in the North Atlantic Division beginning in the 2021 season.

“The addition of the Long Island Rough Riders continues to grow the thriving presence of the Super Y League in the Northeast,” said Dominic Colarusso, USL Youth League Growth and Development Manager. “We expect that the Rough Rider’s presence in League Two will help attract more talented youth players to its Super Y League offering and create a new competitive pathway for youth players in New York. We look forward to seeing what the club’s presence in the Super Y League does for the growth of the North Atlantic Division over the course of the 2021 season.”

Based in Garden City, NY, the Long Island Rough Riders aim to foster an environment where both players and coaches can develop to their highest potential within the game. In adding a Super Y League offering, the Rough Riders will present more opportunities for competitive play for youth players within the region as well as the chance to introduce youth players to the pre-professional environment at a younger age, giving players a better idea of what it takes to reach an amateur status.

In joining the Super Y League, Long Island will help enhance the mission of the club in developing a strong youth platform by providing players an opportunity for year-round play, national exposure and competitive experiences through events such as the Super Y League Finals.

“The Super Y League national platform extends the Rough Riders player development pathway to younger age groups leading into the newly launched USL Academy, which supports both our USL League Two men’s team and our women’s team that competes in United Women’s Soccer (UWS),” said Peter Zaratin, President of the Long Island Rough Riders. “Joining the Super Y gives the Rough Riders the opportunity to showcase and compete at a national level in a well-structured league platform operated by the USL.”
