The two clubs' U14 Girls teams could meet in the knockout rounds

Rivalries can divide soccer fans over many factors, but nothing makes for a more fiery encounter than when two teams from the same area face off against one another. These games are even more intense when they happen in tournaments, and that’s exactly what could happen if Northern Virginia SC and Northern Virginia Majestics meet in the knockout rounds of the 2019 Super Y Finals.

The U14 Girls sides for both clubs qualified for this year’s Finals with some impressive performances. Based just 30 miles from each other, each team proved very difficult to beat during the regular season, with Northern Virginia SC going undefeated. They headline Group A at Finals, and will face tough tests against Rebels SC, Chicago Soccer Academy, and Morris Elite SC.

Northern Virginia Majestics lost only twice during the regular season, and both losses were to — you guessed it — Northern Virginia SC. Both contests featured plenty of goals, with the first encounter settled by a 3-1 scoreline and the second a 4-2 result in favor of Northern Virginia SC. The Majestics will face Central Illinois Elite North, Stony Brook FC, and Oceanside Breakers in Group B play at Finals.

Northern Virginia SC's star players Arianna Blanco and Nicole Alvarado enjoyed themselves on derby day, scoring two goals apiece over the course of the two games. Alvarado finished as the team’s leading scorer with 10 goals.

Majestics found their goals from a variety of sources during the two rivalry games, with Grace Shifflett, Avery Bracher, and Brooke Oswald all getting on the scoresheet once. If they hope to find revenge at Finals, they’ll need top-scorer Elle Pae to get amongst the goals.

Since the U14 Girls division features three groups, the three group winners and the runner-up with the most points will advance to the knockout rounds. Northern Virginia Majestics and Northern Virginia SC could very well meet in the national semifinals or final should they each finish at the top of their group. Either way, watch for both of these clubs to make their mark in Tampa this December.
