A Q&A with the West Side Alliance administrative assistant

Hanslovan in action for Oral Roberts University

As the administrative assistant at West Side Alliance, Caitlyn Hanslovan gets to work with the sport she’s passionate about every day. A former Division I player at Oral Roberts University, she now translates her skills on the pitch into helping WSA run smoothly. We asked her some questions about working for one of Super Y League’s top clubs.

How did you start working with West Side Alliance?

The Director of WSA, Roger Bush, was my head soccer coach at Oral Roberts University.

What inspired you to want to work in soccer administration?

I grew up around the game of soccer and was a Division I athlete. I’ve had the opportunity to attend different sporting events, and knew that I wanted to learn more of the “behind the scenes” work that goes into making these events successful, so I pursued a degree in sport management.

Sports have played a huge role in my life and this profession allows me to give back and hopefully impact someone else’s life as much as it did mine.

Who do you idolize and try to imitate as a mentor?

I don’t necessarily have that one person that I idolize or try to imitate. There are so many people that have come into my life and each one of them has guided, shaped and molded me into the person I am today.

I am so thankful for my family, friends, all of my coaches, and everyone that I have had the opportunity to meet in the sport management field.

What are you most proud of about the club’s performance in Super Y League this season?

I am proud of them as a whole. Watching their development as individuals and as a team, working to achieve one goal is awesome.

What excites you most about the West Side teams that are headed to Super Y Finals?

It’s awesome to be involved in a club that has six teams headed to the Finals. It has been a great experience being able to work for West Side Alliance, and being around the kids allows me to continue to enjoy soccer in another capacity other than the “soccer player” role.

It brings me joy to watch the players develop and their love for the game knowing all of the possibilities that are at the tips of their feet.

I remember the feelings, preparing for the tournaments and every bit of excitement working together to bring home the win. Overall, they have worked hard as a team to be headed to the Finals and I wish them good luck but more importantly just to enjoy the game.
