BRADENTON, Fla. -  In a tight match, Midwest United FC has qualified for the chance to win another Girls Super Y title, as it advanced to the U16 Final following a 2-1 win over Central Illinois Elite on Monday at IMG Academy.

Just 33 seconds into the match Midwest opened the scoring with a beautiful play from the kick off, working it through the middle of the park. The ball ended with Jenny Dear able to get on the end of it and simply pass it into the back of the net.

The lead was doubled in heartbreaking fashion as an attempted clearance went horribly wrong as the defender shanked her clearance. That looped back to the keeper whose attempted clearance was too late, the ball already over the line for an own goal.

After the second goal, Central Ill. Elite came more into the match, seeing more possession and starting to create goal scoring chances. But despite that work the Midwest defense was holding firm, keeping Central Ill. off the scoresheet.

That Central Ill. pressure told in the 49th minute when the received a free kick from 40 yards was swung into the box by Autumn Weeks. That cross went to the far post where Bridget Taylor was able to out jump her defender and head the ball past the keeper.

With a goal back in the match, Central Ill. kept the pressure going looking for what would be a vital second goal. The Midwest defense was holding strong, keeping shots to a minimum, with Central Ill. pushing but largely restricted to chances outside the box, keeping the match 2-1 at the final whistle.
