BRADENTON, Fla. – Oklahoma Energy FC will play in the U13 Girls Super Y Final on Tuesday following a 1-0 win over Liverpool IA Fowler in Monday’s Semi-final at IMG Academy.

Liverpool started the match well seeing plenty of the possession in the early stages in an entertaining match. In the 11th minute Liverpool hit the post, with a cross from the right side of the box going too close to goal and going out for a goal kick.

The defensive nature of this match being a semi-final showed in the first half, with both teams proving phenomenally difficult to break down. That was continuing a trend throughout the tournament from both teams who barely conceded all tournament.

In the 23rd minute Energy FC opened the scoring with a free kick which was perfectly hit, perhaps getting some slight assistance from the wind. Ava Pitt took the free kick, hitting it just over the head of the keeper and into the back of the net.

A goal down in the second half Liverpool attacked through the opening 10 minutes of the half, desperate to get a goal and get back into the match. Strong defense from Energy FC kept Liverpool out, restricting it to shots from distance.

Energy FC nearly doubled its lead in the 47th minute after a great turn from Dayana Vasquez-Rubio opened up the space. That allowed her to shoot from the edge of the area, forcing a stunning save out of Sophie Homan who turned the ball onto her bar, allowing her defense to clear.

Liverpool went agonizingly close to equalizing in the 55th minute through an impressive free kick from Remini Tillotson. She shaped to cross the ball into the box but took a direct shot at the near post, catching out the goalkeeper but only finding the corner of crossbar and post.

In the final 10 minutes Liverpool was relentless in its attack, rushing forward, but they could only get through the Energy FC defense twice. One of those came on the hour mark, running right through the middle but Ashlyn Lonberg got down well, blocking the shot with her feet to keep it 1-0, where the score would remain.
