Leo Herard is eager to make his mark at the 2017 USL Experience, hosted by San Antonio FC, after completing the Super Y League's Elite Player Pathway for the first time in 2016.

The midfielder, who played for the Chicago Inferno in 2016, impressed during the Super Y League regular season and continued to turn heads at the Regional Scouting Series in July. For his efforts, he was named to the 2016 National Player Pool, and he will join 71 other players in San Antonio, Texas, for the second edition of the league's elite player program.

The USL Experience, a multi-day residential event, offers the league's top players some of the highest-level youth competition in North America and also delivers a unique look into professional soccer.

A member of the United Soccer Leagues, which also operates the Division II USL and Premier Development League, the Super Y League provides approximately 10,000 players and more than 90 clubs an exclusive experience through its advanced player tracking, strong development resources and college soccer connections. The league utilizes a summer platform, while the annual North American Finals takes place in December.

SYL: What has been your overall experience playing in the Super Y League?

LH: This was my first year of Super Y, and I have been very happy with the overall experience.

SYL: What aspects do you most enjoy about the league?

LH: Playing with new kids and attending the Super Y camp. It was nice to have college coaches watch you and give you immediate feedback.

SYL: What are you most looking forward to at the 2017 USL Experience and why?

LH: I am very excited to be coached by some of the best soccer coaches in the States.

SYL: What do you hope to learn by attending the USL Experience?

LH: Anything and everything coaches think I can improve on. I'm looking to take my game to the next level.

SYL: Do you want to play collegiately, and if so, how has the Super Y League helped you prepare for that next chapter?

LH: I am definitely interested in playing in college. Super Y allowed me to play with different players and gave me a feel for playing with a group of good soccer players dedicated to the game.

SYL: What do you enjoy most about playing with the Chicago Inferno?

LH: Chicago Inferno is a great team that plays a different style of soccer than my other club team Galaxy Soccer Club in Naperville. I enjoyed playing their style and the coaching was great.
