Texas-based club to begin play in 2017

TAMPA, Fla. – The Super Y League has revealed Lonestar Soccer Club San Antonio as the fourth addition to the new Mid South Division.

“We are thrilled to have Lonestar Soccer Club San Antonio join the TSC HurricaneFC Wichita and Liverpool FC International Academy Texas as Mid South members,” USL Director of Business Development Joel Nash said.. “All of these groups share Super Y League's vision for the youth game, and they represent the quality of club organization that the Super Y League continues to build with. We’re excited to partner with our very first South Texas based club in Lonestar SC San Antonio and give its members additional programming for increased player development opportunities and national exposure.”

Lonestar SC San Antonio is led by Director of Coaching Nick Hallam and Assistant Director of Coaching Eric Johnson.

“For the past five years, we have focused on changing the landscape for youth soccer in San Antonio,” Hallam said. “Historically, San Antonio youth soccer has been somewhat disconnected from much of the rest of the country and didn't compete consistently well with its South Texas rival markets of Austin and Houston. We have committed to developing players through a particular style of play across our entire program all geared to the long-term development of our players, despite the environmental challenges we regularly face.

“We are, five years later, known locally and regionally for the way we try to play the game and for the level of players and teams now being produced from our program with this approach. We feel the Super Y league is at the cusp of a renewed period of growth, which has been stimulated by the growing interest in the USL, highlighted recently with U.S. Soccer awarding USL Division II status. We feel Super Y will provide an additional national exposure pathway for our players that will lead to increased opportunity for them within the game. We feel we can champion the San Antonio based player within this additional pathway and get college coaches and professional coaches looking at these players more regularly.”

Lonestar SC San Antonio is particularly looking forward to being involved with the Super Y League’s 2017 USL Experience, which will be hosted by San Antonio FC – one of five sports franchises owned by Spurs Sports & Entertainment – in San Antonio, Texas. Each year for identified players, this elite player program provides competitive training and match play, educational programming – such as workshops and presentations – a stadium and facility tour, access to professional players and staff and much more?

“As the leading youth club in the San Antonio area, many of our players have been selected to participate in the event as the competition for the players selected nationally from Super Y League and regional ID events for the USL Experience,” Johnson said. “We are excited to see our players play their part at USLX, and we are confident they will show the qualities we have helped develop in our players in recent years."
