SYL Welcomes Harrisburg City Islanders as Member

United Soccer League club set to begin play in 2017

TAMPA, Fla. – The Harrisburg City Islanders, who compete in the Division II United Soccer League, have been named a Super Y League member ahead of the 2017 season. The club is set to play its SYL matches at Central Dauphin East High School in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania.

The City Islanders join the Pittsburgh Riverhounds as USL clubs fielding Super Y League teams for the 2017 season.

“We are thrilled to announce the Harrisburg City Islanders as Super Y League members for the upcoming season,” Super Y League Marketing Manager Matt Reda said. “The Super Y League operates within the United Soccer League family, and our players will greatly benefit from the opportunities that arise as our professional clubs continue to influence the youth landscape.”

Mike Lamarca, Chris Hartman, Jared Gingrich, Lester Felician, Ben Steinour and Tom Renko will serve as head coaches for the SYL teams.

“The Harrisburg City Islanders Youth Academy are rejoining the USL’s Super Y League to continue to help our players develop with quality training and high-level opponents in the Mid Atlantic Region which the Super Y League provides,” City Islanders Youth Academy Director Dave Kern said. “We continue to develop a pipeline from the youth all the way up to our professional team, and the Super Y League will help us get there.”

Harrisburg enters the league alongside new member clubs in the Georgia Storm, Athletic Jaier Futbol ClubCrystal Lake ForceBethesda SCLakeland FCTSC HurricaneLiverpool FC International Academy TexasFC WichitaTampa Bay UnitedWoodhaven SCBraden River SC and Florida Gulf Coast Dutch Lions FC.

Founded in 1999, the Super Y League is a part of the United Soccer Leagues, which also operates the USL and the Premier Development League. The SYL features a summer platform with an annual North American Finals in December, providing a unique experience to approximately 500 teams and 10,000 players through the Elite Player Pathway, which includes the Regional Scouting Series and USL Experience.
