Midfielder preparing to stand out at 2016 SYL Finals

Following a strong Super Y League season, National Player Pool selection Credence White has been gearing up for the 2016 North American SYL Finals in December.

Credence recorded one assist for Midwest United White during the SYL regular season, helping her team finish 7-3-0. Midwest United White will compete in Group C during the U16 Girls' competition from Dec. 9-13 at IMG Academy in Bradenton, Florida.

The Player Pool Spotlights serve to highlight players from the 2016 SYL National Player Pool (NPP). Players who excel during the Regional Scouting Series events are selected by the SYL and college coaches. A total of 195 players, including 99 girls and 96 boys, make up the 2016 NPP. Players named have the opportunity to be chosen to take part in the 2017 USL Experience at San Antonio.

The USL Experience, a multi-day residential experience following a professional training format, provides an unprecedented look into professional American soccer and will offer SYL players the opportunity to compete against high-level youth competition. Invitations to the 2017 USL Experience are set to be revealed in January.

Midwest United FC Midfielder

SYL: What, specifically, have you been doing to prepare for the Super Y League Finals?

CW: I have spent this fall playing with my Midwest United FC U-18 team and was named a captain for the season. I have also been working two-to-three times a week at PowerStrengths Training Systems and have focused on both strength and endurance.

SYL: Is your goal to play college soccer, and are there any schools that have stood out to you?

CW: Yes, some colleges I have visited are Aquinas, Grand Valley and Loyola University-Chicago. Some schools I am also interested in are Calvin College, Saginaw Valley, Davenport University and Valparaiso University.

SYL: What is your pregame routine?

CW: My pregame routine consists of eating something light, usually fruit, making sure I am hydrated, listening to music and working hard during pregame warmups.

SYL: Is there a specific player you base your game off of when you play?

CW: A player that I try to emulate and base my game off of is Xavi. I try to emulate Xavi because he is a playmaker in the midfield, making short passes, playing the ball through channels and maintaining possession through the middle.

SYL: What are your personal goals for Super Y League Finals, and what are your team goals?

CW: My personal goals are to consistently play to my highest level and to be seen by some college coaches. Our team goals are to play together, play consistently at our highest level and to win.

SYL: Has there been anyone that has been influential in your development as a player up to this point?

CW: My Midwest United coaches have been the most influential in my development as a player. James Gilpin has been one of my most influential coaches, as he was my first coach when I first started playing for the Grand Rapids Crew Jrs.
