Washington Spirit Academy VA looks to claim U16 Girls' title for second straight year

A chance to win a second consecutive U16 Girls' title at the North American Super Y League Finals is on the line for Washington Spirit Academy VA.

The Spirit Academy claimed the U16 title in 2015 with a 1-0 win against the Northern Virginia Majestics, and they return for the 2016 edition of the SYL Finals after finishing 8-0-2 in league play during the summer.

For the U16 Girls' tournament, there are three groups – Group A, Group B and Group C – comprised of four teams each, while the U14 Boys' competition features four groups – Group A, Group B, Group C and Group D – also comprised of four teams each. The tournaments will be played from Dec. 9-13 at IMG Academy in Bradenton, Florida.

Across all groups for the U16 competitions in Bradenton, 18 players who competed in the summer were named to the 2016 SYL National Player Pool.

Teams will play each team in the group once. There will be five game slots each day: 8 a.m., 10 a.m., 12 p.m., 2 p.m. and 4 p.m. ET. Competing in the North American Finals is another great opportunity to be placed in the SYL National Pool for a chance to participate in the USL Experience, hosted by the United Soccer League's San Antonio FC, in April 2017.

Group play will take place on Friday, Saturday and Sunday, while the semifinals kick off on Monday. The finals will cap off the five-day format on Tuesday.
