Elite Player Program to feature SYL’s top young players in multi-day professional environment

TAMPA, Fla. – On the heels of its inaugural USL Experience in Cincinnati, the Super Y League, the best operated youth league in North America, has announced that San Antonio FC will host the anticipated second edition in April of 2017.

The USL Experience, a first-of-its-kind environment, is an elite multi-day residential event that follows a professional training format and delivers an exclusive and unprecedented look into the professional ranks while connecting the SYL’s top young players to the professional level.

"We are very excited to host the best Super Y League players in San Antonio at Toyota Field and STAR Soccer Complex for the USL Experience," said SAFC Head Coach Darren Powell. "Our staff is committed to player development, and hosting this event allows us to observe the quality players from the Super Y League."

The USL Experience provides additional educational programming, such as workshops and presentations, a stadium and facility tour, access to San Antonio FC’s players and staff, competitive training, match play and much more. Players invited to take part in the USL Experience will have the opportunity to train in a professional USL environment while also learning from San Antonio FC players and staff. They will have meals, lodging and training gear provided at no cost.

The 2016 SYL Regional Scouting Series Events serve as a direct path to the 2017 USL Experience. The 2016 Regional Scouting Series Events are from July 29-31 for Region 1, from July 22-24 for Region 2 and from Aug. 5-7 for Region 3. Region 1 will take place in Lancaster, Pennsylvania, for the New England, North Atlantic and Mid Atlantic Divisions. Region 2 will be at The Plex in Fort Wayne, Indiana, for the Midwest Division and Region 3's Scouting Series will be held at the Ormond Beach Sports Complex in Ormond Beach, Florida, for the South Atlantic and Southeast Divisions.

“We are certainly looking forward to hosting the second annual USL Experience in conjunction with San Antonio FC,” Super Y League Director Dan Lohrs said. “We had a tremendous debut in Cincinnati and look to build off of that success and continue raising the bar on the USL Experience. San Antonio provides the opportunity to immerse our players in a new environment and region of the country. We want to take advantage of everything this unique city and club have to offer, which in turn will provide our players with the experience of a lifetime.”

San Antonio FC is currently competing in its inaugural season in the USL, playing its home matches at Toyota Field. The club is one of five sports franchises owned by Spurs Sports & Entertainment, the parent company of the NBA’s San Antonio Spurs, and is led by Managing Director Tim Holt. Coach Powell served as the Director for Orlando City SC’s Pro Academy and Head Coach at Elon University before becoming San Antonio FC’s first Head Coach.
