More DI college coaches attending than in 2015 and more

The 2016 Regional Scouting Series Events are nearly back, and they are expected to be much better than the year before.

Currently, 12 Division I college coaches – eight more than in 2015 – are set to attend RSS events this summer. Among the programs set to attend are Creighton University Women's Soccer, Old Dominion University Women's Soccer, University of Cincinnati Men’s Soccer and George Washington University Men’s Soccer. In total, 35 college coaches are scheduled to go to at least one of the three events.

As well as providing elite Super Y League players a platform to showcase their abilities in front of college coaches, the RSS Events also offer two full-length matches accompanied with technical training. Furthermore, players have the chance of being selected to the SYL National Player Pool.

“We evaluated our feedback based off of last year’s RSS events, and used that to further enhance the player experience for 2016.” Super Y League Director Dan Lohrs said. “Two of the most important aspects of a quality identification camp are high-level scouts and a training environment conducive to proper evaluation. Through programming and staffing refinements, we feel we have created an ideal environment for proper scouting.”

For the U10-U12 age groups, players will train and compete in Rene Meulensteen’s Technical Testing where the top players identified have the chance of being invited to the U.S. Technical Championship. Rene Meulensteen Academy carries out the vision and philosophy of the former Manchester United coach and trainer. Meulensteen’s unique player development curriculum strives to develop creative confident players and teach players the skills necessary to excel in one-v-one situations.

For the U13-U16 age groups, players will be working directly with college coaches throughout an entire day during the events. The coaches will be running technical training sessions and will be coaching and scouting full matches. For this age group, the SYL Scouting Series is also a direct path, by invitation, to the USL Experience

Region 1 is scheduled from July 29-31 at PA Classics Soccer Park in Lancaster, Pennsylvania, for the New England, North Atlantic and Mid Atlantic Divisions. Region 2 will take place from July 22-24 at The Plex in Fort Wayne, Indiana, for the Midwest Division. Region 3's Scouting Series will be from Aug. 5-7 at the Ormond Beach Sports Complex in Ormond Beach, Florida, for the South Atlantic and Southeast Divisions.
